The gig-economy evolved out of unarticulated values and pressing needs as the new field of the Internet moved global society into the Digital Era. Three plus decades later it has eroded sustainability. Embedded in the “gig-economy’s economic model" is an inescapable fact. - It has efficiently commoditized human skills and personal endowments on a global scale.

The gig-economy has made the most vital web resource - human skill, intellect, creativity and highly trained IT inputs - into a consumable, a disposable. It threatens, and has, often turned freelancers into economically exploited workers, and is patently wasteful of a valuable long-lasting resource.

The resource emphasis on competitiveness among IT workers is self-defeating. Combined with the power-dynamics inherent in cross-border business culture, we view it as unsustainable. Because it devalues, or at best, does not acknowledge the intrinsic aspects of human endeavour.

Motivation, inspiration, recognition, loyalty, fair dealing, sharing and just compensation. These qualities are not found in any articulation of the values used to justify pan-global promotion of the “gig model”.

To be sustainable and foster human growth, that relationship should develop vital human skills, reward amply the provider of mission-critical human inputs, technical and creative. We believe in drawing IT workers into the ongoing financial and social benefits of their work. Experience shows it increases their performance, and they are motivated by their fair share of the financial benefits spawned by the explosive growth of online business and social activities.
